KNIGHTS of COLUMBUS

SACRED HEART COUNCIL 2577

St. JOHN N. NEUMANN ASSEMBLY 1763

Developing lasting friendships while helping the less fortunate.

WHAT IS THE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS?

The Knights of Columbus is a service oriented organization of Catholic men who join together in fraternal, family, religious, charitable, community and youth activities. The 1.8 million member organization is international in scope, but the major emphasis is focused on the activities of the individual council.

Sacred Heart Council #2577 was instituted on June 21, 1925 and has grown to a membership of 900 Catholic men. The major thrust of our activities is directed at involving the entire council family in service related activities.

WHAT DOES SACRED HEART COUNCIL DO?

The Council operates within five major areas: assistance to the Church and our own five parishes, service to the Bowie/Crofton community, youth activities, family events and social affairs.

Our Knights are also involved in special events throughout the year, such as "the Tootsie Roll Fund Drive".

HOW OFTEN DOES THE COUNCIL MEET?

We meet on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month at 8:00 P.M., except November and December when we meet on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays, at the Sacred Heart Council Hall on Columbian Way in Bowie, Maryland. After the meeting there is a fellowship time with refreshments.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR MEMBERSHIP?

Any practical Catholic man, 18 years of age or older may apply for membership in the Knights of Columbus.

WHAT IS REQUIRED OF THE MEMBERS?

Each member must be a practical (practicing) Catholic and is required to pay $60.00 in annual dues. A new member must also pay an initiation fee of $10.00. There are no other specific requirements to maintain membership.

Men who join the Order attend meetings, participate in Council Activities, serve on committees, run for office, as their time permits and interests dictate. The rewards of membership are obviously proportional to the member's participation.

WHY SHOULD I JOIN?

That's really up to you. Most members will tell you they joined to be associated with other Catholic men and their families, to strengthen their ties to the Faith, to expand their social and community activities, to help others and thereby to achieve a unique sense of accomplishment.

We are looking for good Catholic men to join our ranks. We extend to you a most cordial invitation to join the largest Catholic fraternal organization in the world, the Knights of Columbus.
